Building a trusted, internationally recognised virtual assets regulatory framework remains a key priority for Naoero as the government continues to strengthen the nation's economy through innovation and responsible regulation.
Earlier this year the Command Ridge Virtual Asset Authority (CRVAA) took steps to strengthen its executive leadership with two key appointments.
Internationally recognised financial risk leader Maria Zameer joined as chief risk and compliance officer while cybersecurity and technology specialist River Nygryn came on board as chief technology officer.
President David Adeang said attracting world-class international expertise demonstrated growing confidence in Naoero's vision to become a trusted leader in digital innovation and economic diversification.
"While we don’t have the same resources of larger nations, we are embracing innovation and building a more resilient and prosperous nation for dei-Naoero.
“At the same time as building a higher standard of living, we are prioritising international best practices and the highest levels of governance and compliance,” the President said.
CRVAA chief executive officer Brian Phelps said the appointments ensured the authority was well placed to commence operations and deliver a world-class regulatory framework.
"Our executive capability is being strengthened as we develop the regulator and bring the right experience to meet international regulatory standards while supporting responsible innovation and creating long-term economic opportunities for Naoero," he said.
Ms Zameer has more than 20 years of international experience in financial services, risk management and digital assets, joining CRVAA from Standard Chartered Bank, where she most recently served as head of digital assets risk in Singapore. Throughout her career, she has developed and led complex risk management frameworks supporting the safe and responsible growth of digital assets.
Ms Nygryn joined CRVAA after more than 17 years' experience across technology, cybersecurity and risk in banking, financial services and the virtual assets sector. She has led major technology and security programs for some of Australia's largest financial institutions and brings extensive expertise in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
The appointments marked another milestone as the government continues implementing its vision to position Naoero as a trusted, internationally recognised digital assets jurisdiction, supporting economic diversification, attracting global investment and creating new opportunities for future generations.
